A lot of people are familiar with the beauty of our National Parks, but not as many people are as familiar with our National Forests. National Forests are actually our preferred location. There are several reasons why. First off access is most often free. Second you can generally camp where ever you want, and as we previously discussed we prefer to camp in the backcountry, campgrounds just don't do it for us. Lastly, dogs are normally allowed anywhere, including on the trails. There are quite often National Forests near or even bordering National Parks. Why not camp in the forests and visit the parks during the day. That is what we often do. I guess we are somewhat rebellious, we don't prefer the strict rules of the Natural Parks, but we completely understand why they are in place.
