Conservation Through Exploration

Unless we change direction, we are bound to end up where we are headed

Conservation through Exploration

Conservation is at the core of all X-plorenow beliefs. Our mission is to encourage conservation through education, exploration, and tourism. Conservation though should not come at the expense of access. The goal is to protect the environment for us and our use, not from us and our use. We believe that if society is educated to the impact of their choices, and to the value and enrichment of nature through hands on activity.

While any small gesture can help and will serve as a great start, minor personal lifestyle changes unfortunately won't save the world alone. There are three parts required to support true conservation and change. The first is education and awareness, to both the impact of the positive decisions we make and the actions we decide not to take. The second is personal choice, the choice to recycle, the choice to stop using plastic water bottles, and the choice to save the environment. Unfortunately our personal choices may not be enough; we need the help of legislation and international policy to govern the actions of corporations, governments, and foreign countries. Legislation and policy will need to also be used to ensure continued access. The combination of education and awareness, personal choice, and legislation should be the change that is necessary to finally save the environment. The mission of X-plorenow is to bring all of these aspects together.

Leave No Trace & Tread Lightly

With access comes responsibility. Misuse of the trails and backcountry leads to trail closures and backcountry restrictions. Rightfully so as it leads directly to environmental damage. We are strong believers and followers of both Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly. We want you to be able to explore and enjoy nature, that is our focus, but we want you to do so responsibility. Education is imperative as we may not know the impact we are having on the environment. For more information on Leave No Trace visit our education page here. For more information on Tread Lightly please visit our education page here.

Conservation And Our Children

You can't teach old dogs new tricks; unfortunately that old saying holds a good deal of truth. While it is not too late for us all to make a run at true change, our best hope lies with our children. Interestingly enough, not only are the young more likely to incorporate change, their rebellious nature's making them that much more likely to live life differently than their elders. Exploration is also a great way to enrich the mental and physical health of our children. Isn't it better to teach kids through hands on exploration and real life experiences, rather than just reading it in a book?

With that said, there is still a challenge ahead of us. Today's society has supposedly made life simpler. We have electricity, the internet, cell phones, and buy our food from the store, or even have it delivered. While often useful, this technology has unfortunately disconnected our society, and especially our kids, from nature. While adults may find it harder to make changes to our habits, almost all children don't understand nature and the impact of their actions. So before it is too late, get out and explore and take your kids with you!
